Hey Robert, I assume you have an Ultimaker 3 or 3ext by now? Do you have any plans to update this cable chain or create a new cable chain for the U3? The cable connects on the opposite side of the build plate and has a piece of metal in the way. If not, is there any chance of getting the original 3D files that created these .stl's? Thanks! -=Randy

Any word on how this works with a UM2 Extended? I read that another cable chain didn't work with it because of the cable length not being long enough to allow mounting of the bed end.

The design is nice (would love to have it parametrised in openSCAD, f.ex.), but it does not work on the UM2 Extended. The Extended uses the same length cable as the normal UM2, and therefore has too little margin to make the bend at the top when build plate is fully raised.

@Macua85 I'm doing so right now. Seems to work well. One thing I found as a help to assembling, is adding just a bit of heat to help allow links to flex for assembly. You can also use heat to tighten up joints where the links are a little warped.

I created an alternate design for the bottom link of this chain so the last segment clips onto the frame of the Ultimaker 2 to hold it firmly in place.

https://www.youmagine.com/designs/pressure-fit-cable-chain-link

Printed like a dream with Cura's 'Quickprint Normal' settings. It is now installed on my Ultimaker2. Thank you!

Has anyone tried to fit this to the heated bed upgrade kit for the UMO? As the bed is supposed to be the same as the UM2, thought it may go.

I printed one (I put this info in the description of my "make") and had to take a bunch of links off of it. I can't secure my bottom piece to the Ultimaker because there isn't enough slack when the bed is moved all the way to the top for the bottom piece to lay flat. I can't add more pieces because I don't have a long enough cable cord. Bizarre.

I used 20% infill and I've been quite rough with mine without issues. I did use 3 perimeter lines (1.2mm shell/wall or whatever you want to call it) for strength though.

How much time did it take to print it all? Any suggestions for settings?

If you found this via the forum scroll down a bit more and you'll see the collection of test prints it took to get it right :) I actually had one design done, printed and mounted at one point when I discovered that it interfered when homing the bed... had to scrap that one and start all over.

But it should work fine in its current form :)

*crosses fingers that it'll work on your printer without issues* If you can I'd love to see a pic of it when it's done. Doesn't look like you can add a "Made" thing here though...

It was done in SolidWorks. I'll think about it, not sure I want to release that mess to the public.
edit: How about this, you fill up https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2 and I'll think about it even harder ;)

Btw: What was it designed in? It's always nice to have the native files on Youmagine too.

Wow, really nice upgrade! And it looks great inside an UM2 as well! I've featured your design (it'll be visible on the front page for a while).
