Even if the lower were considered the firearm for this design, it would still be legal.
It is not illegal to manufacture your own firearm in the U.S. and has never been.

This is neat, could use it to design a really comfortable grip.

I think printing lowers should be fine.
you can build fire arms from 80% lowers so why not 3d printing from scratch

I think stuff like this should absolutely be allowed

I would say if it it legal, you should allow it. That covers a lot of things. If this isn't legal due to Dutch laws (I assume the site's owner is located there or the site is hosted there) then it needs to be removed. If the designer isn't the legal copyright owner or there is patent infringement then it should be disallowed. Same goes for other illegal things.
I personally wouldn't want the responsibility for deciding the red lines. Too much trouble and at times you get into legal issues (in the crazy US legal system) if someone feels they were discriminated against and such.

This particular part is useless without the many metal parts that make it into a firearm.

If this is a accurate replica is the publisher the legal copyright owner?
If so I have no problems with it, even though I would NEVER download it. Although as stated Dutch law might prohibited such a design.
Personally I rather make love then war ;-)

As always with censorship, the question is Who sets the arbitrary lines, and based on what criteria. I'm on side of less (or no) censorship.

Hi guys, we want to let people upload and distribute anything. But, in this case this is not a case of censorship. Because of stringent Dutch laws it may be illegal for us to offer for download these types of files. Thats why we asked Patrick to unpublish. We want to have a discussion. So I'm happy to see everyone talking about it here. Do people feel that in principle we should let everyone upload anything? Nothing is forbidden? Or do we think that we should have a number of red lines as a community?

I cannot see any reason why the part should not be available on this site.
No one is being forced to download objects posted on this site...if you don't like the object, DONT DOWNLOAD IT! Simple as that....
I say let it be!

I'm not a gun owner and not really sure where I stand on gun ownership but I don't see a reason why this shouldn't be posted here with the following caveat. As long as the design is original and doesn't infringe on copyright or patents, to me, it's an object.
I think it's naive to think preventing it from being posted here will somehow prevent it's distribution and possible illegal use.
In the end, you have to respect the site owner's decision however.

I didn't have any problem with it exporting it straight from Inventor to Cura. I see some things that are overhang and thin wall problems that I will address later though.
Thanks

I'm a community leader on GrabCad. I've posted the file there.

I cannot think of any reason why legal firearm parts should not be posted here, and would be very annoyed if such political censorship was to become the rule.
If the site removes this file, I sincerely hope that the Pirate Bay distributes copies.
In fact, I'd be moved to make a contribution to Defense Distributed.
