If you used interface layers for your supports, they should simply tear off like velcro. One interior corner of the mount features an angled cutout that allows for the routing of your fan cable. Just drop in your fan and plug into USB. [https://amzn.to/2S4ZOzE] - This fan from AC Infinity is my favorite USB fan. Quiet, USB pass-through, and inline fan control. You will need to remove the optional rubber feet for it to fit. [https://amzn.to/2PGMwYt] - If you want the cheapest possible fan, these work just fine. Quiet, but lacks pass-through and control. [https://amzn.to/2q5hjTJ] - If you have a spare 140mm PC fan, or want to go for absolute overkill with comething from Noctua https://amzn.to/2q3wBsf then this adapter will convert the standard fan cable to USB. Depending on your surface, you may also choose to stick on some rubber feet from 3M: [https://amzn.to/2Rb6NpN] Cooling efficiency was tested using iStat (part of the SetApp bundle available at https://go.setapp.com/invite/c6de99e8-5b0e-40f7-ad05-b8163439f661). Under an artificial full load across all 4 CPU cores (this was an i7 Mac mini) with the blower fan locked at a constant speed, the M3 reduced core temperatures by up to 10%. I highly recommend iStat if you're using your mini as a home server as it allows you to define custom fan curves. I personally set an aggressive curve in order to get the best performance while streaming media.
