<p>Great 3d printed shoes, btw. I invite you to post the design! Thanks! </p>

<p>A corded electric lawnmower is 150 USD. A motor and switch with cord is 50 USD. ABS plastic is 40 USD. You save 60 USD by 3d printing a lawn mower over buying one. </p>

<p>Hans, thanks for your contribution. I will design and post a variation of your lawnmower that is; <br></p><p>1. smaller and with a main body that is printed in 4 parts in ABS and glued together with acetone so that it can be made with any common 3d printer such as a Makerbot Replicator, Ultimaker, or Prusa I3.<br></p><p>2. Doesn't use a metal blade. it will use a nylon filament instead. My lawnmower will be 100 percent polymer with no metal, except for the motor.&nbsp; Motor will be of a common inexpensive model available almost anywhere for purchase.<br></p><p>3. battery or cord power. <br></p><p>Reasons; <br></p><p>1. A metal blade with loose wires a clumsy operator can accidentally run over makes me nervous. Not everyone is as skilled a lawnmower as you Hans. I don't think that the metal blade will kick up stones and kill you. There's the stone guard for that. Even a metal stone guard is not flawless. The stones can ricochet underneath the stone guard and deflect upwards to hit your face. That's what happened to my lawnmower man. Which brings us to the next big innovation....&nbsp;</p><p>Again, great invention, Hans! Very impressive! Great engineering is making something work that everyone previously thought was impossible such as the 3d printed gun, this lawnmower, and I'm currently working on a 3d printed bicycle printed on a common consumer 3d printer. <br></p><p>Automated robotic lawnmower similar to the Roomba! <br> </p>

Here is a better story on this lawnmower and the machine that have made it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lANAFrq6KI&feature=youtu.be

Many people say 3d printing is only suitable for 1 off prototype things, because it is so slow....I agree, but what if..... you can make it 8 times faster....? But that can not be done? Well, it have been done....!!! Look at the videos over at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fouche-Chocolates/217306118448036 Is that the same Fouche? ;-) O, yes, it is! And that machine have been running for 19 years now.........!!!! 3D Printed chocolates have been done for 19 yeas..!!!! So printing 8 lawnmowers at the same time? Not to laugh at any more! I am sticking to the matter at hand, you were acting childish about the comments. I agree w/ what you were saying about things taking time & all, & believe me I love this idea & I would love to print one out myself but I don't have a printer near large enough to do it w/. I also know that things take time, I'm an inventor myself things take allot of time & it take even more time to make something viable once you get it working 'cause just 'cause it works doesn't mean it's viable for the wholesale market yet. So please lighten up & get a sense of humor.

Don't worry, you can 3D-print your own prosthetic if you cut off some limbs with that mower...

sofiadragon1979, can we stick to the matter on hand here please. That is the design aspects of this interesting new lawnmower design.

At the moment the stoneguard is 6mm thick ABS. After a lot of mowing, no stone have left a visible mark on the inside of that guard yet…. I will keep on inspecting it, as soon as I find a stone damage mark that looks severe, I will change to 9mm, or 12mm…..or 21mm for that matter. That is how development work is done on such a new product

This lawn mower will be tested until it fails. I will inspect the failure mode, make design modifications to the CAD file, and print the next one. That will also be tested to destruction... and modifications will be made....and reprinted.... That is the way of product development! The first technology demonstrator is EXPECTED to fail.... If you don't know that, Please don't knock my lawn mower down ! And all the updates WILL be posted here... ;-)

Yeah, the use case for ABS hard hats and a metal frame of a lawnmower are completely different. Something potentially falling on your head can only be at terminal velocity, and a large enough object will still kill you. Sharp, rapidly spinning metal blades don't have that luxury, and can do major damage. Cool design, but it is very dangerous. Making fun of that fact doesn't change it.

Note: All construction workers, please replace your ABS hard hats with metal hard hats..... A certain EldRick think you might come to harm......

The reason rotary mowers all use metal housings is to protect your feet and legs when the metal mower blade breaks or throws a rock. I wouldn't get within 50 feet of this thing when operating - it is dangerously bad design and wildly hazardous, and I'd prefer to keep both of my feet.

Too bad the frame isn't set up more for home printers, or else I'd print one out in a heartbeat lol
