A few layers may be needed. I've seen people using 7-8 layers for fan base covering entirely the nozzle.

I've been thinking about getting some kapton tape recently, would a single layer of tape be enough, or would I have to use multiple like you did with the aluminum paper?

I printed it in PLA with a small heat shield. You can make one with aluminium paper. I folded 4 or 5 layers and placed it around the sides in the opening of the nozzle. Otherwise you can use kapton tape.

Curious what material you used to print this and how has it held up so far? Right now I only have PLA, but wasn't sure if this was fine, since it doesn't stand up to heat very well. Maybe I should get some Colorfabb XT filament, or similar, that can withstand greater temps?

<p>These gaps are to hold a thin sheet of metal that surround the heater to avoid melting the plastic of the surrounds. </p>

Quick question. What ist the small gap on the back good for? (please see the screenshot).

<p>Do you think you can come up with a version that would not require to unscrew the fans to be able to detach the fan base? That and reduce the logo pls :D :D</p>

I had a nice flat surface where to put it. :). Just kidding. If it is annoying I can reduce the size of it.

I appreciate the contribution to the UM2 users, but did you really have to add the huge "ZETOFF" Logo up front?

At the link there a both versions - dual and single extruder (I use the version: Fan Base V06 Rev01)...

I haven't tried https://www.youmagine.com/designs/ultimaker-2-fan-mount-dual--2 as it is for dual extrusion and I only have one extruder.
I optimised the design for just one extruder.

No problem, I will make 4 little holes with the Dremel ... ;-)

Sorry I actually printed mine. Without holes as well. I just need to redo the operation. I will post it as soon as possible. I do apologise for the annoyances.

I've used the same pattern. So it fits.
ottomake

at the page of the other fan mount you can find a pattern for the metal piece (dont know if it fits here, too)
then, if you print at 210°C (PLA), you only need 40% of the fan speed (or print with 230°C and a lot more speed :-) )

Great, thanks a lot ! :-)

Hey, you need to put some metal plate there (i made mine from a can....)
I use this fanduct (v6!): https://www.youmagine.com/designs/ultimaker-2-fan-mount-dual--2
its pretty similar (i would say)

Just a question before print/install ... :)<div><br></div><div> ... no problem for the plastic structure of this base, near the heaterblock, during printing of the first layer, when both the fans are off? No deformation, or worse, melting?</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks, Guglielmo</div>
