I always enjoy receiving photographs of the kids and grandkids, and when I received the latest school photograph of our youngest grandson wearing one of his favorite "super hero" shirts, I decided to create this simple 3D printed "super hero" themed picture frame for displaying his photograph on my desk.
The single extrusion frame consists of four components; the frame ("Frame, Black.stl"), the frame insert ("Frame, Yellow.stl"), and the frame legs ("Leg, Left.stl" and "Leg, Right.stl"). The dual extrusion frame "Frame, Dual Extrusion.3mf" is designed for the frame insert color in extruder 1, and the frame color in extruder 2. Both frames are designed for a 65mm (≈ 2.5 inches) wide by 90mm (≈ 3.5 inches) tall photograph displayed with a reward tilt of 15° If you require modification of the frame in order to display a different sized photograph and / or display at a different tilt angle, I've included the Autodesk Fusion 360 file "Batman Picture Frame.f3d" for editing as required.
To make the single extrusion frame, I began by 3D printing one each of the four components at .15mm layer height with 20% infill. After printing, until the components fit snugly together, I carefully removed the build plate "ooze" from the edges of the components using small flat and round jewelers files. Next, I glued "Leg, Left.stl" into the left slot of "Frame, Black.stl" (as viewed from the rear of the frame) and "Leg, Right.stl" into the right slot of "Frame, Black.stl" (again as viewed from the rear of the frame) using thick cyanoacrylate glue. Next, I pressed "Frame, Yellow.stl" into the front side of "Frame, Black.stl" (a few dots of thick cyanoacrylate glue may be required to hold the insert in place). And finally I used clear cellophane tape to attach the photograph to the back of the frame.
To make the dual extrusion frame, I began by 3D printing the dual extrusion frame and the two legs at .15mm layer height with 20% infill. After printing, I carefully removed the build plate "ooze" from the edges of the frame leg slots using small flat jeweler file. Next, I glued "Leg, Left.stl" into the left slot of the dual extrusion frame (as viewed from the rear of the frame) and "Leg, Right.stl" into the right slot of the dual extrusion frame (again as viewed from the rear of the frame) using thick cyanoacrylate glue. Finally I used clear cellophane tape to attach the photograph to the back of the frame.
And that is how I printed and assembled my "Batman" Themed Picture Frame.
