Redcat Ascent Fusion - Large Roof Rack - Comp Rack

Introducing our RedCat Ascent Fusion - Large Roof Rack - after much group input, a couple of friends and a whole lot of testing, we’ve got our first rack! Our Large Roof Rack keeps your body in great shape, gains a few style points and makes your truck look amazing all in one easy step (and 6-holes). Our Large Roof Rack has been field tested and it is ready to go. We include a 3d printed screw hole guide and all the hardware you’ll need.

Dimensions: 125mm x 70mm x 3mm

Type: You can choose between our "Comp" version, which includes a v-groove bearing to act as a pivot point or our "6-hole" version with six of the same countersunk screw holes.

Hardware: You’ll need: 5 x M3x12mm countersunk, 1 x M3x16mm cap head, 6 x M3 nuts and a v-groove bearing to complete the install.

Light Bar Hardware: You’ll need: 2 x M3x16mm countersunk, 4 x M2x10mm cap heads.

Installation - Full-Size Comp Rack - We recommend a lexan body reamer to create the 6 holes that are required; though in a pinch a drill will work. Line the supplied template up to the rear driver's side corner of the body; using painters tape to hold the guard down, start each hole with the reamer or drill. Once you’ve got the holes started, you can remove the guide and finish up the holes. Make the holes 3mm or a bit bigger to allow the screws to pass through. Next take the rack and put all the screws into their locations, place the 4 larger spacers on the outsides and the smaller two in the centre. Hold the rack upside down and place the body on top; make sure all the screws go into their holes. Use the included nuts and nut holders starting from the centre out and tighten them down by hand. You can apply a tiny bit of thread lock to keep the nuts secure long term.

Installation - Curved LED Light Bar:

Warning - Soldering experience required, that is not always safe and that’s 100% on you, we take no responsibility for your skills and/or if you mess up. Also these instructions assume you’ve got the basics down, we can’t tell you everything.

Truck Prep: If you’ve already installed our Large Roof Rack - Comp Rack, then you’ll need to make a hole for the light bar wire to go through. You can get fancy and put the wire through first, or you can cut a hole big enough for the female JST connector.

Battery Side: First, slide back the protective grey casing on back of the XT60 battery connector; using a male JST connector, push the wires through the protective cover and then solder them to the existing leads. Slide the cover back on and use the included zip ties to tie each of the wires down about 5 mm from the protective XT60 casing, this provides stress relief.

LED Strip: Take your LED strip and using a sharp hobby knife cut down the protective coating (if applied) until you can make contact with the soldering pads. Careful here, you only need to go back just a little bit. Next strip your wire, on one side give yourself an equal amount of a female JST connector and on the other give yourself just enough to cover the pads on the LED strip (you don’t want these too long, there’s not a lotta room). Tin both sides of the longer wire. Slide on a large piece heat-shrink and then heat-shrink for each wire onto the JST connector. Solder the JST connector to the main wire, add on your heat-shrink and move to the LED Strip. Tin the LED pads first, then take your main wire and in a v-shape and solder each pad.

Assembly: Slide the LED strip into the 3d printed bar; carefully shape the wires from the strip and get them to sit nicely into the cut-out. It’ll be a bit tight, but they’ll go in. Next screw on each of the sides using the your hardware. You want the bottom “circle” edges facing the inside.  Use the your M3 x 16mm screws to attach the light bar using the same nuts and retainers to hold those screws down. Slide the wire through the hole you made for the JST connector and you’re good to go!
